In the beginning of September, I was invited to Japan to perform at the Red Bull Air Race’s Sky Lounge. The Sky Lounge hosts dignitaries, the families of the pilots and Japanese superstars.
The Sky Lounge boasted a clear and direct view of the race itself. Guests were invited to the patio to view the race or come into the suite for refreshments and magic entertainment.
So I had the pleasure of performing to Glay and actor Yu Shirota. But embarrassingly, I did not know the scale of their popularity and performed for them as I would in any corporate event.
There was no gushing or fanboying, I performed for them straight on. It might seem kind of weird but I think that might have been a good approach. Their reactions were genuine, and they are there to relax. So they no longer feel the need to maintain a certain image.
And at the end of the performance, I was told by the organizers, “Oh did you know that was “so and so”?” I admitted that I did not to much surprise cos they are really big in Japan.
Check out their reactions in this video:
I love the Japanese hospitality and the enthusiasm of the audience. And I cannot wait to be back!
